A native of Austin, Texas and a Petroleum Engineer since 1962, C. Ronald (“Ronny”) Platt opened a private consulting petroleum engineering office in 1976 and in 1980 co-founded with Don Sparks the petroleum engineering firm of Platt, Sparks & Associates. Ronny currently serves as chairman of Platt, Sparks & Associates Consulting Petroleum Engineers, Inc. Platt, Sparks & Associates Consulting Petroleum Engineers, Inc. provides professional consulting petroleum engineering services to operators and owners of petroleum properties, mineral interest owners, attorneys, courts, government agencies, banks and financial counselors. He was previously employed by Chevron Oil Company for more than thirteen years.

Ronny is a 1962 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. Ronny has served on the Advisory Board for the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas.  He has also served on the Advisory Board for Selection of Distinguished Petroleum Engineering Graduates. Ronny has been recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the Cockrell School of Engineering. Ronny and Don Sparks are donors of the Platt, Sparks and Associates Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Petroleum Engineering at the Cockrell School of Engineering.

Ronny is highly respected in the petroleum industry and recognized as one of the leading professional petroleum engineering experts in regulatory hearings and litigation. He has served as an expert engineering witness in over 150 lawsuits and over 500 administrative hearings. He was the Governor’s Appointee to the State of Texas Membership on the Energy Resources Committee of The Interstate Oil Compact Commission for twelve years. In 2009, he was appointed as a Commissioner to hear and make findings in a complex litigation matter in a Federal Court.

Ronny is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He has been recognized on the Moving Forward, Giving Back Honor Roll of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Foundation for his support. Ronny is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers.

Ronny is married to Kathie Platt and they have four children and ten grandchildren.

Ronny is a member of the Lake Travis Methodist Church and serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of My Healing Place, a non-profit agency that provides grief, trauma and loss counseling in the Austin area. He also serves as president of the Board of Governors of the Hornsby Cemetery, a state designated historical cemetery.
